Fat Loss Therapy/Zerona® Q & A

Shaans Family Wellness and Chiropractic

What is cold laser therapy?

Low-level laser light is compressed light of a wavelength from the cold, red part of the spectrum, hence the name “cold laser.” The cold laser is very different from natural light. When natural light hits your skin it produces heat that can damage your skin. Since a cold laser is one color, it is a single wavelength and its beam can be concentrated in a small area. It can penetrate the skin without heat, damage to your skin, or any known side effects. The treatments offered by Dr. Shahverdi use Zerona® technology, where the laser targets these areas in a safe and noninvasive way. If you are struggling to lose weight and are not sure that surgery is the answer, cold level laser circumference alteration can be implemented for a painless way to reduce fat.

How does Zerona® work?

Zerona® is a non-invasive treatment using cold laser technology to breakdown fat cells, which liquidates the fat and allows it to leave the body. This FDA approved treatment caused average losses of 3.64 inches from abdominal circumference after 6 treatments in a double blind, randomized, multi-site and placebo controlled study. The technology was shown to only release the cellular contents of fat cells, while leaving other tissues intact. It is recommended for patients to follow a treatment protocol during the time period in which they are receiving the Zerona® treatments. This means staying hydrated with 8-10 glasses of water each day, exercising each day (at least walk 20-30 minutes daily, this will help lymphatic system pump lymphatic fluid carrying the released fat up to the liver), and not consuming any alcohol or caffeine.

Can the procedure reduce fat anywhere?

The procedure has been approved to target stubborn fat prominences in certain areas, namely the abdomen, flank or side, inner and outer thighs, arms and under the chin.

What happens to the fat? Are the results permanent?

Once the contents of the fat cells have been released, they are carried to liver via lymphatic system. In the liver, fat is conjugated and excreted from body. It will be important to maintain a healthy lifestyle to avoid putting on additional fat.
